Welp! I’m back. It’s been a minute (two weeks, to be exact) since I’ve updated Friday Reads, and I apologize for that. It was all part of my self-care and the reevaluation of my blog. And now, here I am, being incredibly bookish and nerdy and just shouting from the rooftops about it. Ha!
As an update of what I’ve been up to in the last two weeks, I finished The Hate U Give and then gushed about it everywhere. Naturally. I can 100% guarantee that you’ll be reading more about THUG on this blog in the future (a review is coming, and I know it’s going to be mentioned on next week’s Top 5 Wednesday, for instance). I had a bit of a book hangover from it, and when I tried to dive into another book, I was sorely disappointed. That book was The Bone Witch, and I DNF’d it at 20%. Since then, I’ve been told that I need to pick it up and try again, and I might do that down the line. But I needed to move on in that moment. I also finished Pandemonium on audio, and then finished Requiem on audio, and I’m so happy with how that trilogy ended. I can’t believe it took me so long to get through it. So good. After The Bone Witch, I wanted something light and easy as a cleanse and a reset. So I picked up Since You Asked…, which is something I picked up at the North Texas Teen Book Festival a couple of weekends ago. I read that in 24 hours, felt sufficiently reset, and then picked up… wait for it…
Done Dirt Cheap, by Sarah Nicole Lemon
I spent most of the week reading this book, and it was SO SO GOOD. There was more than one night that I laid in bed after working two jobs and was still up past midnight because I fell so in love with the characters and the biker club world. I don’t want to say too much, but it’s a Thelma and Louise type store about a motorcycle club and two high school girls that are tangled in it. And the cover is just heart eyes everywhere. I have an eARC from NetGalley, which doesn’t do the cover justice, but it’s still lovely.
Once I finished Done Dirt Cheap on Thursday night, I moved on to a much-anticipated ARC from one of my internet besties. And when I say I’m excited to really dive into this book, I’m trying to be cool about it.
Alice: The Wanderland Chronicles, by J.M. Sullivan
J.M. has been my biggest supporter through the editing process of my own book, and I couldn’t be more thankful to have her in my life right now. She read an ARC of my book last week (if you’re interested in her thoughts on Something Beautiful, you can head her review here), and now I’m just about vibrating in anticipation of reading hers. And Alice in Wonderland retelling… with ZOMBIES. Wee!
I have a friend in town this weekend, so I doubt I’ll get further than that. But like, I love books. So much. And I’m really excited to start getting back into book reviews and just bookish stuff. Books! Yay books!
