Welcome to the very first #WellnessWednesday here at Brown-Eyed Twenty-Something! This is a new blog segment where I take one day each week to catch anyone who is interested up on how my wellness journey is going. Here's a quick recap, for those new to the blog:
I started running in the spring of 2013, building up to a couple of 5ks, a couple of 10ks, and then my first half marathon in October 2013. After that, I was hooked and wanted to run a full marathon. So I went big - I signed up for a half marathon series and my first full marathon. And then, guess what?
I got hurt.
That was New Year's Day 2014 - not my best start to a year. I was diagnosed with IT band syndrome, and my running was painful for almost two full years. I kept running, not letting it heal properly, not doing my cross-training, working myself to the bone. You know, as you do. It wasn't until we moved to Texas that I started taking everything seriously. Eat better, do your cross-training, do it right. I ran another half in December of 2015 without pain in my knee. That kicked off an exciting year where I ran a couple more halves and finally finally finally finished my first marathon. Now I'm in a distance challenge series where I have two more halves to run and another full marathon before the end of February. But I'm doing it right this time.
So - today!
On the first Wednesday of each month, I'm going to highlight my four-legged fitness companion, because he's the best and I wouldn't have nearly as much fun without him. Today, we went for a three mile run at a 7:58 min/mi pace, so he was pretty pooped when we got home. As they say, though...
A tired dog is a happy dog.
How do you keep your furry friends happy and healthy? I'm excited for this monthly segment - Ole always needs more love, right?
