Welcome to my website. I mostly talk about books and writing, but you never know what else I might chat about. I'm glad you're here!

"Leave the Night On" by Sam Hunt

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuMiMBjcvWU Okay, this video is cute.  He’s so into it.  And he looks a little like a country version of Adam Levine.  I approve.

So, like other songs I’ve talked about recently, I started out unsure about how I felt about this one.  What does “leave the night on” even mean?  But then I listened again, harder.  And I realized how clever the lyrics are.  I love a lyrical challenge.  It’s the reason I had Lorde’s “Royals” on repeat for weeks.  I had to learn the words.  It’s been about a week since I tried to get this one down, and I’ve finally got it.

Here’s the chorus:

Girl, you got the beat right

Killing in your Levi’s

High on your lovin’s got me buzzin’ like a streetlight

It’s still early out in Cali, baby, don’t you want to rally again?

We’ll find a road with no name

Lay back in the slow lane

The sky is dropping Jupiter around us like some old Train

We’ll be rollin’ down the windows

I bet you we’re catching our second wind

We don’t have to go home

We can leave the night on

It’s country, but it’s also fairly modern.  And a little bit about Sam Hunt – he was a quarterback at both Middle Tennessee State and Alabama Birmingham before signing with the Kansas City Chiefs.  Plus, he co-wrote Kenny Chesney’s “Come Over,” Keith Urban’s “Cop Car,” and Billy Currington’s “We Are Tonight,” which I talked about back in July.  What do these songs have in common?  Catchy beats and words that take man listens to understand and then learn.  And it’s all Sam Hunt, ladies and gentlemen!

He’s only released an EP so far, but his first full album is due to drop the same day as T. Swift’s.  It’s going to be a big day on iTunes for me!

What do you think of Sam Hunt’s look, though?  Too edgy for country?  I’d like another opinion on this one, because I can’t decide how I feel.
