Hi.

Welcome to my website. I mostly talk about books and writing, but you never know what else I might chat about. I'm glad you're here!

Race Recap - Get Lucky 7K (March 15, 2014)

Get Lucky was my first race since I got injured at the Polar Dash on January 1st.  How did that feel?  Well, I’ve been thinking a lot about that since Saturday.  How did it feel?  I’ve come to the conclusion that my feelings are a bit torn.

First, it feels freaking fantastic to be running again.  A 7K is 4.34 miles, so it was a good distance to get back out there – longer than a 5K but not so long that I’d risk getting hurt again.  It makes me excited to get back into my training – I’ve missed it!  And our finishing time wasn't bad at all - 40:13.  I was happy with that, for barely having ran in the last three months!

But, at the same time, it was tough.  My cardiac fitness is down.  Waaaaaaay down.  I was huffing and puffing most of the race, where my dad was cruising through.  I have missed running for the mental toughness it gave me, but I always forget how much it helped my lungs.  I NEED to get back out there.  And, sadly, my knee started to hurt in the last kilometer, which was very disappointing.  I’m going to have to go back to being very diligent about my physical therapy, or that marathon that I’m supposed to be training for is just going to be an unreachable figment of my imagination.

The plan is to go out for a run again today, just to get back into it.  I hope it goes well.  I need to get this part of my life back.

Just keep running, just keep running, just keep running, running, running.[i]

Get Lucky 7K finishers! :)
